Value Engineering in Mining with Geosynthetics

Date : 24 Nov 2021, Wednesday
Time : 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM (GMT +8)
CPD/PDP: 2

Organised By: IEM Technical Division - Geotechnical Engineering

SYNOPSIS

Mine sites encompass a broad range of engineering applications, including challenges with tailings & water management as well as geotechnical challenges. In recent decades, traditional construction methods are evolving, with an increasing use of geosynthetics as a construction material. The talk includes key points to be aware of from design and construction perspectives, as well as references for design methodologies. Succinct examples are explored to show how geosynthetics enhance water management, haul roads, retaining walls and similar mine site structures.

BIODATA OF SPEAKERS:
Mr. Brendan Swifte and Mr. Norhisam Omar

Brendan Swifte has been involved in the geosynthetic industry since 2001, and has sales & marketing experience across the range of geosynthetic applications and functions. He graduated from Monash University in 1997 in Civil Engineering. From mid-2005 to early 2020, Brendan was the Managing Director of Geofabrics Australasia Pty Ltd, leading their operations across ANZ. Prior to this, he was Managing Director of Maccaferri Australia from 2003 to mid-2005. He is now the Managing Director at TenCate Geosynthetics Asia.

Norhisam Omar, graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 1994. Norhisam has extensive experience in the development and manufacturing of geosynthetics since 1997. He then took on the leading role in expanding in the Asia Pacific as Regional Business Manager of TenCate Geosynthetics Asia in the Water & Environment Division.
